pre-task iii:

best practices in the netherlands

Content:

With the main idea of 'overtourism':

Destination management:

a) Just like many other destinations, also The Netherlands is facing challenges regarding the phenomenon of ‘overtourism’. Try to analyze this situation for The Netherlands as a whole. Where does it appear and how? Give examples of media coverage. Give an insight in how The Netherlands deals with the challenges of overtourism and its different stakeholders in terms of policy/strategy. Are Governments involved? Or DMO's/DMC’s? Other market players? Use examples.

b) Give a concrete example of a specific destination (tourism region, -city, -site, -attraction) within The Netherlands which you would define as ‘best practice’ in terms of how this destination deals with the challenges of overtourism and its different stakeholders. What policy/ strategy does this destination have in order to cope with overtourism? Be eager to research further than only Amsterdam. Tip: Research documents and Media have published on this topic.

Marketing:

c) How is this destination promoted in general? And: Find out how far these promotional marketing-activities that are communicated by this destination to the different stakeholders take the challenges of overtourism into account. Try to illustrate the above with examples.

d) Give an insight into the destination's other marketing decisions (price, place) which are used to market this destination in general (so not specifically overtourism-related).
